The course has parts that say this. The need for defense is what gives
"attack" it's meaning.
"In my defenselessness my safety lies" is another one.
When I was new to the course, I got into this idea, that *I* (creator of
my own personal experienc in the illusion) could give something else a
different meaning, by seeing it in a different way. I kind of got away from
it, for one thing, I'd write about it on discussion groups and get told I
was wrong and "that's not what the course says" (but some say that about a
lot of stuff)
Aside from the course, if someone, for example, says to me "you're an
idiot". I can take it any way I want and thus change whatever meaning the
person saying it might be coming from. I could agree and say "you are so
right!" I could laugh, I could say "that's you opinion". I could feel bad,
I could say something mean back, etc.
The control/power in the words is up to ME.
I don't remember this enough.
I like this (forgiveness is basically the same as not needing defense)
T-26.VII.17....2 Forgiveness is the answer to attack of any kind. 3 So is
attack deprived of its effects, and hate is answered in the name of love.
Or another quote, not sure who originated it, I've heard Wayne Dyer say
it...
"you don't have to explain yourself to anyone. Your friends won't need it
and everyone else has already made up their minds already".
I can see Peace instead of this. I don't need to see "anyone else"
seeing Peace. That's their choice.

Wow, didn't know that saying ("if I defend...."), but that's so very true
indeed. And so is what you say about Gary and Robert, who are even known as
ACIM teachers... may they see peace instead.
Post by CarrieDoesn't seem like Gary Renard and Robert Perry (who have been having a back
and forth verbal feud for a lot of years) remembers the course saying "if I
defend myself I am attacked". It's the need for defense that MAKES attack.
There's also the old (long before ACIM) saying "it takes two".
Doesn't really matter if they see this (and one changes his mind, which
is all it takes) or not. Those reading it and giving attention to it always
can.
