Hello All,

I was so excited on hearing the hype about The Bible miniseries on the History Channel.

DVR all set...

Then I watched the first episode. I found it ghastly. Focus on humans suffering and anguish, and nothing about Joy and Biblical teachings. A focus on violence, heartbreak, and God's wrath.

Now, I know, the Old Testament has a lot of judgment, and human suffering. However, this isn't the content of its instruction.

From a viewer's perspective, I found the characters were not believable, and they looked more like a high school play. I found the direction, except for some of the scenery like a constant magnifying glass on torture, and I found the emotional and psychological content over-dramatized.

DVR no longer set for recording. A major disappointment.

You and me, both. I think we have progressed from seeing/believing "the bible" like that. Seems like I remember it's Roma Downey (from Touched by an Angel) and her husband that are behind the mini series.
I watched about an hour of it and got bogged down by it, and distracted by something else. Maybe something more uplifting.
I also noticed, in the beginning of it... Abraham's wife, Sarah can't conceive a child so she tells him to go and make the slave girl (Hagar) pregnant. It never showed this or if Hagar was asked about it first (she was a slave, their property?) Later, when Sarah is given a baby, Isaac, she is jealous of Hagar and Ishmel, her son, who is now 14, so Abraham "sends them out into the wilderness". I know, the bible says this stuff, but now it's like WTF?
This is something to glorify, and make a movie about and treat like it's normal and okay. Of course, we knew that when God told Abraham to sacrifice his son (terrorfying the kid while doing this) he was going to stop him at the last minute.
If this stuff really happened, it's over and done and maybe should be left there. I'd rather see a mini series about a future time, when everyone loves and cares about everyone else, and there is peace in the world.
Speaking of mini series... did you ever see the one from HBO, years ago "Angels in America"? Maybe a few centuries from now, people will come across that in some way and think "how terrible people were back then" LOL

Carrie,

The history of the Bible intrigues me, but what I read of the reviews of The Bible series by the "experts," tells me the history presented is not correct, and the presentation is more about drama, and perhaps audience. As example, there is no history of Sarah running up the side of the mountain in desperation as to her son.

I feel the Bible has survived because there is a reason for it, and to distort the contents doesn't make sense.

I also feel using the Bible for drama, well, I don't know, its contents are thrilling in another way if presented from *that*perspective.

Thanks for the information as to "Angels in America."

I saw this on TV at the time and it's all on YouTube (in parts) and pretty good. Talking to people about facts, etc.

I don't like the new format of Google Groups now, makes it hard to use and follow. I no longer have an internet server that offers newsgroups (usenet) (Charter cable stopped) and don't use it enough to look one up and pay for it.
Makes it hard to use in the Google Group way. Also, when I come on, it says uptop I am using an old browser no longer supported by Google Groups, and upgrade to a new one like Google Chrome. When I click to upgrade to a new one (NOT Google Chrome) it says I have the newest one, at leat for Windows XP. Of course, Google never misses a chance to push Chrome, install it with other programs, etc.
Anyway, I think face book is where people are now connecting. I remember when people left Yahoo Groups and moved to the newsgroup, and now apparently they have moved on to other things. Those who are meant to come together (at the time) will.
Try and rent Angels in America. It's different and not what I thought it was, I used to see it winning awards and since I didn't have HBO, when it came out on DVD I rented it. It's about people (in a "real" way) and, like the Mormon beliefs are based on something Joesph Smith found on tablets, giving by "angels", what would happen if this actually happened now, in modern times? The people who claim to believe in these things (angels appearing with tablets, etc) never REALLY expect to be faced with it. All withgin the background of NYC and various "charactors" who come together, including the good Mormon husband, who discovers he's gay. It is presented so "real" and comes together in an uplifting way, I saw after watching it why it won awards. Just wasn't at all what I expected from the title LOL

Carrie,

I will see Angels in America. Definitely sounds like my cup of tea.

Far as Google Groups go I have no problem using the groups. Last year I bought myself a present: a MAC with retina display, along with an iPad of the same screen display. Since then, life has changed for me on the internet.

I simply post where I feel I want to, and let it go to the universe. I function mostly these days on intuition, and have become devoted to meditation, and accepting near constant reminders of the Divine.

I am not very good with social media, but am learning. Thanks for inviting me to the group, and I am following.

Far as interest in other things, I find ACIM online has fairly much died, and perhaps people are practicing as individuals, and will come together in ways that suit the Divine purpose. I have little concern. I just do what I feel is the 'right thing to do' for me.

As to ACIM, I think overall, we are (and were) always supposed to live it. Not talk about it LOL
