Gary Renard and judgement

Ive been a self studying student of the Course for a few years now thanks to Gary Renard. I haven't reached out to any other Course followers and I have never written any comments, until now. On page 178 of Garys fourth book I came across these very disturbing comments from Gary where he calls me and people like me ,"nuts'. He calls us "racists" and "hateful" and he disrespects my President by calling him a deeply disturbed man. I am a 55 year old Republican leaning Course follower. I am not a racist. I have no hate in my heart for anyone. Most of my closest friends are Mexican or black. I am a white man who did not agree with most of Obama's choices as President but I always respected him and never attacked him or called the people that supported him ,nuts, hateful, racists, disturbed. If anyone has a "toxic-minded ego self" it would seem to be Gary. I don't judge him. I feel sorry for him. Somewhere I think he has lost his way. Sorry Gary but I think you still have many, many lifetimes to come. If any Course followers ever read this please let me know, is it O.K. to be a right leaning white male and still be a teacher of GOD? I already know the answer but I would love to hear from other Course members. I don't care if you lean to the right or left politically. I love you just the way you are because to me you are perfect. Gary, the war is over. Please stop attacking and judging others for what they are not. As you see your brother you will see yourself.

Of course it is, and yes, I am a right leaning Course follower, too.

No, I do not follow the writings of people who claim to teach the Course. I began studying the Course in 1980, I was section leader on Compuserve for a study group, and I studied the Course with others every week for three straight years. And, of course, I read the Course every day for several years straight.

Almost everybody I have encountered, who tries to make a living from teaching the Course, uses the Course to advance their own ego. I even saw this with Ken Wapnick.

The ego is a slippery thing. Even when we talk about letting go of the ego, we are actually projecting it. This is why the Course focuses so much on the holy instant, which is a moment of allowing the mind to be perfectly still. Miracles are a string of holy instants weaving through perceived time like a golden thread.

It is not important, or even relevant, as to what our ego belief system is. The Course operates in the quiet moments in between ego thoughts. Forgiveness has nothing to do with acknowledging another's beliefs, but rather in joining them in miracles. When we join in a holy instant, we have by default forgiven our brother of any judgments our ego has made. By joining in the quiet moments between thoughts, we have not only forgiven others, but also ourselves.

The course isn't about anyone else and what we see them as, or doing, it's just about "me" and what I am seeing. If you see Gary as judgmental and attacking,even if you don't think you are and see him as "sad" it is your mind that is deciding this.
Not that I haven't judged Gary myself over the years, but it's easier to see it in someone else LOL

I had essentially the same experience as you today! I have been a student of ACIM for 25 years and have read all 4 of Gary's books. I read DU and YIR 5 times each, and have referred Gary's books to many people over the years. I also lean toward conservative views, although I used to be a Democrat and voted for Obama the first time (not the 2nd). I'm a 55 year old white female who happens to believe the policies of Republicans will help us all achieve our common goals for the greater good of everyone - which includes all countries, races, religions, sexual orientations, etc. I have only love in my heart for people of all colors, faiths, and economic situations. They are all my brothers and sisters in God. So I was shocked today when I read the section you refer to in Gary's 4th book about our current President and how sick all the people are who voted for him. The ego part of Gary's mind launched into a tirade calling us all "nuts, racists, sick, disturbed, toxic, hateful" etc. This really blew my mind! I know I shouldn't make it real, and I will get there, but it's so disappointing that Gary could not just stick to the message of spiritual awakening through Forgiveness in this book. It seems shameful to use his book as a platform to attack his readers and promote his personal political agenda. If the liberal democrats are the party of love and tolerance, why do so many of them behave this way? Why do they only love and tolerate the people who share their political beliefs? Why can no openly conservative actor get a job in Hollywood? Why are Melania and Ivanka viciously verbally attacked by people who claim to be for women's rights? I too did not agree with Obama's policies as being right for our nation (or the world), but I always gave him the respect that is due any President, and I refrained from the kind of verbal lashings that Gary has doled out toward Trump. I don't believe we are a racist society - but rather much of that story is fabricated by the liberal left to keep the racial minorities voting for them so the Democrats can stay in power. When Gary says that Trump is coming from his "toxic minded ego self", I think Gary is projecting his own unconscious guilt onto Trump. While Trump is far from being a perfect man (who is?) he genuinely wants to drive results that benefit all of us (peace, prosperity, economic growth and stability, safety and security, health, opportunity, freedom, honor and dignity, etc.) It amazes me that Gary thinks he can become enlightened in this lifetime even while he spews forth such intolerant, false, and unsubstantiated nonsense upon his (previously) loyal readers. I deeply love ACIM and will remain a life long student. I enjoyed meeting Gary at a Unity Church event a few years back. But sadly I can no longer view his books in a favorable light, nor continue recommending them to others. As for not making it real, and recognizing that I must forgive him for what he did not do, I will get there. It is my fervent hope that other Course students who are not ultra liberal democrats also choose to stay on the path laid out for us by J in the Course. Politics and Big Government are not the answer to our one problem of imagining separation from God. Love and Forgiveness toward everyone, always, is the way... which also includes our brothers and sisters in God who are (in this dream lifetime) Republicans, Independents, and Tea Party members.

I think by supporting Trump you are exercising seriously bad judgment, but that has nothing to do with your practice of the Course. If you were a racist or hateful, it would definitely be something which needed work, but the same could be said for someone in the habit of calling out supposed errors in connection with race whih didn't actually exist.
