I can save a youtube video as a flash file onto my computer with Realplayer,
the extension is FLV.

How does one make the mp3 file. I can do it a hard way of recording it thru
a mixer.

A box comes up when it saves to your computer (to Real Player) after it's
done it says down the bottom CONVERT ALL
There are settings like where you want it to go and what do you want it
coverted to. I think the one for mp3 is "custom". You can blowse to where
you want it saved on your computer. And click CONVERT (or start)
Also, when you have Real Player itself open there is a way. I had to look
around to find it because I had already saved the videos and didn't convert
them when the download box was still open. Seems like you bring up the video
(in the menu) and right click and it will say CONVERT.
I will have to save a video and see.
I have gone on YouTube and saved several hundred Abraham (Hicks) videos,
and converted them to audio, and burned this on a CD. Then I can delete
them from my computer to save space, and listen to them when I go to bed at
night.

Part 2 (of my response)

I opened Real player and on the left side you bring up your library (I'm
never sure how to do these things I just click things till I get it. I use
Win Media player for most everything) you pick one like VIDEOS and click and
it open up the list in the middle. Says Clip name ...My Rating....
Length,..... Format, etc. (if you double click it it starts playing but you
can still right click it on the list)
Pick the one you want and right click on it, and "convert to" The same box
comes up that does if you do it right after downloading the video and clik
convert on that. Mine says convert to CUSTOM 2 mp3. on the side of this
is a little right facing arrow that has these settings. Apparently mp3 is
called CUSTOM 2.
Under it says "Save as" and you find (browse) where you want it to go
and click the big green button START.

Also, my Real Player link says SP after it, I don't know why. But if you
are able to download videos it must be the same.
Converting them after they download (before you shut the box showing the
download progress and it's done, etc) is easier, because it says right on
the bottom CONVERT ALL or you can select the ones you want just the audio
of.

Use Firefox as your browser and get the YouTube download extension.
You can save YouTube videos directly in any format you like, including
FLV, MP3, and MP4.

I was told that once and got Firefox (which I didn't like) and the
extension and it kept saying I needed other things to go with it, so I gave
up.
With the newer Real Player (not sure when it started being offered)
installed, everything that's a video of flash, etc if you pu the mouse on
the upper right corner of it a box comes up asking if you want to download
it. Or, you can right click on it and find it on the menu.
I know people who have Firefox and love it and recommend it, but I never
could get used to it. Seems like it made the screen too small, with more
tools, toolbars, etc.

There, I got it to work, and it is very neat. I wonder why they make such a
fuss about file sharing downloads while these videos and songs are on
youtube for anyone to watch. Tim

I know, I have thought of the same thing. I've gotten songs from YouTube
and converted them and made my own CDs from them. And I don't have to buy an
entire CD just to get one or two songs I might like. They also seem to be
good quality (from YouTube). There are hundreds (I couldn't even guess)
YouTubes of Abraham-Hicks which I think is good stuff, and they put it up
themselves. Even though they also have workshops and sell books and tapes
for sale. Maybe in that case it's just sharing, like "good stuff". Giving
back.
I think if I ever had a music CD out, and wasn't going hungry from lack of
sales, I would be happy people wanted to download it and share it.

Just wanted to let you know that if you are at a library computer with a
flash port and have a flash device, you can use www.keepvid.com to save the
youtube video in flash or mp4 form on your flash drive. I often do this for
faster Internet results. And then you can open up a file in Realplayer and
add several files for a batch conversion to MP3.

There is a program called WM Recorder that lets one download streams from
CNN.

Good to know, though I (myself) am never on a library computer. I used to
have keepvid and have the link on my desktop and maybe in the toolbar. It
probably still is. Seems like it stopped working good at one point.
I didn't know Real Player did batch conversion. Well, probably the same as
if I save a few videos and it's still open when I convert them to mp3 it
does it all.

Open a video in realplayer. Goto realplayer tools and select convert.
Click the ADD button. Use the shift button to select the first file and the
last file, and then all are selected. Very neat. I'm not sure if the music
industry intended for people to make MP3's of their songs.

Oh nice! I usually convert them all after I save them in the original
download box but sometimes I don't and want to later.
If they don't like people doing it, they can take it up with Real Player.
There are also many other converters and changing one format to another, a
lot of free downloads that do it. I just happened on the newer version of
Real Player doing it, and usually stick with that.
There are some that don't work with it, like small flash games, etc. I
used to have a program to save these (my granddaughter love them and I'd
have them on my computer so we didn't have to keep finding them online).
After while it stopped working I think another co bought it. Don't even know
the name of it now and didn't find another one. Granddaughter is almost a
teenager now and doesn't care LOL
