I'm wondering what the strategy of forcing the user to run the program with
the CD in the drive is. I can get around this by using Alcohol 52%.

Not sure what you mean. What I do to play CDs in the drive is go to My
Computer right click on the drive and then play/open with.
This probably isn't what you mean, it's too simple.

This is just a very small program and could easily be put on the harddrive
to speed things up.

try daemon tools
it creates virtual disk drives
and you can set it up to run acim from your hard drive
you can download it here:
